For example, Digital.gov is a domain, consisting of 1) the second-level domain digital, and 2) the top-level domain .gov. Domain management is the process of overseeing and maintaining a domain or related domains so that they are consistent and safe. This memo provides guidance on the acceptable use and registration of internet domain names. In part, this memo provides policy guidance to help executive branch agencies understand the uses of a .gov domain and how to register or renew a .gov domain. The law and policy guidance collectively establish a framework for maintaining registered domains. This final rule provided a new policy for the .GOV domain that will be included in the Federal Management Regulation. This final rule establishes FMR part 102-173, Internet GOV Domain, and provides policy for registration of domain names.
