YouTube Excerpt: We completed a twelve-mile, figure-eight day hike loop in China Camp State Park in Marin County. Kim and Kira accompanied me on a test of endurance in April 2018. We started out from North San Pedro Rd at the Miwok Meadows Entrance and Trailhead. We followed the Shoreline trail around Miwok Meadow for about 2 miles, until it intersected the Black Ranch Fire Road. We followed this very steep and unmaintained fire road for about a half mile until we reached the upper section of the Bay View Trail. This circles around above the Bucks Ranch Meadow Campground until it descends a gentle set of switchbacks down to the campground parking lot. Here we picked up the Shoreline Trail again and followed it back up to repeat the section of Black Ranch Fire Road we had covered before. We met back up with the Bay View trail and descended to the Oak Ridge Drive Trail. We followed a short section of the Peacock Gap Trail to an unnamed single track over a very steep 250 ft knoll at near the Southern boundary of the park. This small trail brought us back to the southern end of the Shoreline Trail, just above San Pedro Rd near the Old Fishing Village. We followed the Shoreline trail for 2.75 back north along San Pedro Road to reach our destination. https://caltopo.com/m/C0BU While there were occasional views, this hike was primarily an exercise in endurance. I really cannot recommend hiking in this park as it is far too popular with mountain bikers to be an enjoyable hike. We rarely went 5 min without having to step off the trail into poison oak to let speeding bikes pass.
