I was lucky to be called to match something creative with this interior patchwork, but it was easy. Drywall was invented in the UK, of course, between 1920 and 1930. But, as usual, it made its way to the USA around 1950. Most finishes were smooth or skip-troweled as they were easy ones to apply. Before drywall became widely used, building interiors were made of plaster. For hundreds of years, walls and ceilings have been constructed by placing layers of wet plaster over thousands of wooden strips called wooden cedar laths.
