YouTube Excerpt: Microsoft Excel Tutorial: Zip Code Analysis in Excel. Welcome to Episode 2285 of the MrExcel podcast, where we will be discussing the new zip code data type in Excel. Have you ever been asked for your zip code at the store and wondered what they do with that information? Well, now we have some cool tools in Excel that allow us to analyze zip codes in a whole new way. In this episode, I will be showing you how to use the zip code data type to get a summary by zip code. We will start by inserting a pivot table and dragging the zip code data down to the rows area. Then, we will sum the numbers to get a total for each zip code. But, we don't want a grand total at the bottom, so we will remove that and convert the pivot table into a regular table. Next, we will declare the zip codes as geography on the Data tab. This may take some time, so I will pause the video until it finishes. Once it's done, we can see that there are 16 zip codes that are incorrect. We can easily get rid of these by deleting the rows, but that would be time-consuming. Instead, we will use the table feature to add the city and state to our data. Then, we can sort by state to see all the errors at the bottom. We can delete these rows using the Home tab and end up with just the valid zip codes. But that's not all! We can also add a map to our data by inserting a filled map chart. This may take some time, but once it's done, we can see a map of all the zip codes in our data. We can even use a slicer to filter by state and see where our customers are coming from. This is a great way to visualize our data and see patterns and trends. And, if you've ever attended one of my seminars, I would love to see where you're from on the map.
